Author Websites That Demand Attention
Check out Khy’s post over at the Frenetic Reader on what makes a stand-out website. VERY VERY INTERESTING. And pretty much spot on. I think one of the things she really hit on the head was keeping your site updated. A stale site = a boring site!
She listed some pretty amazing sites (I love Maureen Johnson’s website…super-fun!). But I’m really visual, and she missed naming just a few of my personal favorites:
www.carrieryan.com (My Hall-Of-Fame fav…perfect for her book)
www.cherylreneeherbsman.com (check out the adorable laptop flash!)
www.lisamcmann.com (I love the way it embodies the dark feel of her books)
And…I’m sure it was just an oversight that my site didn’t make the cut… ;)

I agree though, author sites are mega important! Authors who don't have them tend to get overlooked. I remember back when I started to get into the book scene, when I was about 11 and 12, the authors who REALLY appealed to me were Meg Cabot, Maureen Johnson, Louise Rennison, because they had websites, and they were updates with a blog (Meg Cabot especially! She was way ahead of the curve with her blog!).
And I was kidding about Khy forgetting mine, but thank you!!! ;)
I think in general YA authors have much cooler sites than adult authors. Much more creative.
Probably because YA authors are a much more creative bunch. In general.
Sigh.
