How I'm Spending My New Years...

I'm tucked away in a cabin in the mountains with absolutely no internet or cellphone coverage (we had to drive 30 minutes just to find a little wi-fi action so I could let you all know I was still alive. And, of course, to do a little shopping!).

Check out this adorable, Bavarian town...

And they have a sweet hat shop too...

(Yes, I'm really that cool!)

I just wanted you guys to know that even though the contest ends tonight, I won't be able to post the winners until Sunday, when I'm back in civilization. You know, civilization...internet, cable television, Starbucks...all the essentials.

So, what are you guys doing for New Years???

Some SUPER COOL Surprises From HarperTeen...

I just got this awesome email from my editor, with all of these cool surprises I can share with you guys! (Have I mentioned lately how much I love my publisher??? Seriously, *hearts floating out of my eyes* kind of love!)

First, they made me this sweet new countdown widget (check it out in my sidebar!). Umm, yeah, it's a little more gadgety than the one I designed. That's what happens when people understand technology. Me, not so much.

But it gets even better than a new countdown widget! They've also designed this awesome "digital tool kit" (which is basically a website where you can find rockin' online goodies for all of the Dark Days authors)...

...GET THIS!...

You can also read a sneak peek of the FIRST 70 PAGES of Desires of the Dead online!!!!!

Hells yeah, baby!!!

Err, I mean...happy holidays to you and yours.

OMG, I heart HarperTeen!

Thursday, December 16, 2010

I really love this time of the year. Everyone is in a great mood, there’s so much anticipation of things to come, I can just feel the happiness in the air because as we all know… it’s Widget Time! Wait! What did you think I was going to say?

So, do you even know how many days there are until DESIRES OF THE DEAD hits stores???

No!? Well that’s because up until today there hasn’t been a DESIRES OF THE DEAD countdown widget.

Well, consider this is your lucky day, check out the fancy new widget in my sidebar...I'll wait...

See? Today is officially the 60 days mark. 60 DAYS!!!!

I know, I’m freaking out too!

Okay, so here’s the deal…we shouldn’t have to freak out alone. I think we should share this countdown burden, and I’m willing to offer you bribes to convince you of my (evil/genius/slightly deranged) plan.

First off, let’s call it a…giveaway, since bribe is such a back-alley word.

Now for the terms of this “giveaway”:

You’ll have 2 weeks to share this lovely countdown widget, on your blog, Facebook, Twitter, Woof…wherever you see fit. (Well, anyplace you can actually put a countdown widget, of course.) And, in return, I will give you points toward these fabulous, glittery prizes:

FIRST PRIZE: A signed ARC of DESIRES OF THE DEAD, a signed copy of THE BODY FINDER, and a complete Desires of the Dead swag pack (including a signed DotD poster, bookmarks, stickers, rubber bracelets, and buttons).

SECOND PRIZE: A signed copy of THE BODY FINDER, an ARC of UNEARTHLY, and a complete DotD swag pack.

THIRD PRIZE: An ARC of THROUGH HER EYES, a $15 gift card to the online bookseller of your choice, and a complete DotD swag pack.

I know…it’s insanity, right???

And here’s how easy I’m making it to EARN POINTS:

1) Earn one point just for being a follower and commenting in this post. How easy is that?!? (New followers welcome!)

2) Earn one more point for following The Body Finder Novels, the official fansite for TBF/DESIRES. (And, yes, you have to let me know here, so I know to count your point!).

3) Earn one extra point for Re-Tweeting/Facebooking (or any other status updating) the contest (but, again, add that point to your running tally!).

4) Earn one point for posting about the contest in your sidebar, and yet another for an entire post *about* the contest. That’s two extra points if you play your cards right! (And let me repeat…you must let me know that you’ve done these things, otherwise I won’t know to add your extra entries, cuz that’s how I roll.)

And that’s not all…because if you act now (I can’t believe I just said that!), there’s one more way you can earn bonus entries!!! This is the exciting part! Can you *feel* the excitement??

5) You can earn FIVE extra points just for posting The Body Finder widget on your blog/website/My Space/Facebook/whatever! Five. Extra. Points!!! (And not to beat a dead horse (I can’t believe I just said that either)…but please, for the love of everything that is good and holy, let me know so I can count those points too!) Note: Simply click the "Get Widget" button on the widget in my sidebar to copy the code...if you have trouble, email me and I'll send you the code!!!

It’s just that easy. Contest runs through December 31st, so get your entries together and spread the word. And the widget!

Oh, and leave me your email so I can get in touch if you win…that’s kind of important…

And get excited, people!

**International peeps welcome!!!

I woke up this morning to find THE BODY FINDER audiobook available for download on Amazon. Damn, I love this crazy roller-coaster ride...I never know what to expect!

And…if you click directly to the Audible website, you can even listen to a sample (it's one of the chapters from the killer's POV...creepy!). Even better, I lovelovelove the narrator’s voice!

So, have I already downloaded it? You betcha! Merry Christmas to me!!!

What Would Violet Listen To???

I was recently asked what songs my main character, Violet Ambrose, listens to on her iPod. So, I decided to take this opportunity to put together a playlist of Violet's songs. Mind you, these are not my songs, otherwise it would be filled with such gems as ABBA, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Lily Allen, and even a little David Archuleta (yeah...I went there!).

Side Note (and commentary about my random taste in music): My husband couldn't find his iPod one day and had to take mine to the gym. When he came home, he just shook his head and said: "You hate me, don't you?" Okay, enough about my disco-era/teen idol pop collection, here's just a sampling of what you might find on Violet's playlist:

Brandi Carlile  The Story

Kings of Leon  Closer

Lily Allen  Who'd Have Known

The Fray  Unsaid

Paramore   Fences

Fiona Apple  Criminal

Anberlin   Paperthin Hymn

Iron & Wine  Boy With A Coin

Panic! At The Disco  When The Day Met The Night

Fiona Apple  I Know

Fine, the Lily Allen song might be because I love her. But, in my defense, she really is awesome!!!

So now it’s your turn, what songs would you put on Violet’s iPod?

On The Twelfth Drink Of Christmas...

We have an annual tradition in our neighborhood...we all gather for a holiday celebration in which we go to 12 different houses each serving a different cocktail. We call it The 12 Drinks of Christmas! SO MUCH FUN!!! As long as you pace yourself.

Over the years, my husband and I have learned some tricks:

1) Eat the offered appetizers. (Drinking on an empty stomach can be...bad. Very, very bad!)

2) Try to drink water (or some other non-alcoholic beverage) at every other house.

3) You don't have to finish every drink. Tasting is okay. Sipping is even better.

These are rules to live by when you're served Duck Farts (yes, that's a real drink) at one house and hot spiced wine at another. These things do not mix well. We have learned to be cautious.

The 12 Drinks party is next weekend and last night my husband and I were trying to narrow down our drink choices, so we were sampling this (The French Kiss):

And this (the Bailey's Cherry Cafe):

And this (a Raspberry Chocolate Cheesecake Martini):

The clear winner...The French Kiss. Just the right amount of sweet and VERY pretty. Although, chocolate kisses DO NOT, in fact, float as a garnish...they sink. So I'm thinking chocolate shavings instead ;)

I found all of the recipes here (the pics alone are to die for!).

Do you have any fun holiday party plans or traditions???

DESIRES OF THE DEAD Tour and HarperTeen's The Dark Days Of Supernatural 2011...

Well, HarperTeen has done it again. That’s right, they’re planning another fab-tabulous tour, and let me just warn you, THE DARK DAYS OF SUPERNATURAL TOUR 2011 is totally gonna rock the house! (That’s right, I just said “rock the house”…now you know I mean business)

And the best part is, I can finally announce that I’m going to be a part of it all. Do I even need to say how excited I am?!?!?

WHO: Five amazing authors (why, yes, I did just refer to myself as “amazing”)
WHERE: Five kick-ass cities across the US. (Insert girlie screams here!)

Here’s where you’ll find me:

Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2:00
Redmond Towne Center
Redmond, WA
With Ellen Schreiber and Cynthia Hand

Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 7:00pm
HarMar Mall, 2100 North Snelling Avenue
Roseville, MN
With Claudia Gray and Courtney Allison Moulton

Friday, March 18, 2011 at 7:00pm

Naperville, IL
With Claudia Gray and Courtney Allison Moulton

Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 7:00pm
265 Aragon Avenue

Okay, so you may have only noticed FOUR cities, when I clearly stated FIVE. Well, that’s because I won’t be in San Francisco on January 14th with Ellen Schreiber and Cynthia Hand. I wish I were, but I can’t complain because of all the other cool places I get to go and the awesome ladies I get to hang out with.

Seriously, somebody pinch me!!!

And if you need more convincing, check out this tour video (I told you: Rock. The. House!):

Five Things I'm Thankful For...

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! For some reason, this is one of my favorite holidays. (I'm sure it has something to do with the food!)

This morning I was thinking about what I'm thankful for, and I decided to put a (very) short list together:

First, I’ll go with the obvious: I’m grateful for heat. It’s cold here in the Northwest right now. Frigid and icy. I will never again underestimate the value of warmth and shelter.

I’m grateful for my family. Yes, obviously I mean my husband and my kids, but I mean the rest of them too....the crazy extended family that I don’t get to spend NEARLY enough time with. ( And thankfully, I get to see some of them today!)

I’m grateful for computers. Because I remember writing on typewriters. And paper cuts. I remember using white-out, and throwing away sheet after sheet of paper because I changed my mind (again!) about where I was going with a scene.

And also for the internet, because I also remember spending hours in the library trying to find info on weapons and pagan holidays and geography. One word: GOOGLE!

But mostly, I’m grateful that you guys have been here to share this amazing, thrill-ride of a debut year with me! Thank you so much for all of your support!!!!

And don't forget, you have until midnight tonight (Pacific time) to enter for your chance to win a signed ARC of DESIRES OF THE DEAD (open internationally)!

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

In my guest post today on The Supernatural Underground, I'm talking about snow days and giving away an ARC of DESIRES OF THE DEAD!

It's easy, it's open to international entrants, and you only have two days. So what are you waiting for???

Thursday, November 18, 2010

I've reached the point in my revisions where it's become a raging obsession. I'm skipping meals, avoiding my family, and even dreaming about this project. I woke up at 5(!!!) this morning and couldn't go back to sleep because I was thinking about a certain scene, reworking it in my head. I finally just got out of bed so I could work on it.

The good news: This kind of obsessive behavior means I should be wrapping things up fairly quickly, so I can go back to doing normal things, like eating. And showering.

The bad news: You guys have no idea what I'm talking about because this isn't a project I've even told you about yet. (That should change soon, though!)

Also, I just got word that Denmark has joined The Body Finder ranks. So a huge shout out to Politiken, my new Danish publisher, for being brilliant enough to snatch up TBF! Tak (thank you), Denmark!!!

I just want to thank Hana, who sent me this super awesome amazing link and fueling my (NOT out-of-control!) mascara habit.

Hello, Sephora Sampler! *sigh*

Friday, November 12, 2010

First, let me tell you, I both loved and hated this contest.

Loved: I loved your creativity. I loved your enthusiasm. I loved the fact that you were willing to do my work for me in coming up with uber-cool catch-phrases. I loved that you were so much better at this than I am. And I loved that even my editor sent me a suggestion!

I flat out loved your catch-phrases. Loveloveloved them! You guys rock!!!

Hated: I hated that I loved so many of your catch-phrases! Seriously, this was SO DAMN HARD! I thought there would be one (maybe two) clear and shiny winners that I would immediately be able to spot among all the others, and just know that that was: THE ONE!

Um, no. Not so much.

I toiled. I made lists. I narrowed them down. I asked my husband for his opinion. And then I asked my kids. And when I couldn’t narrow it down any further I asked one of my favorite online writer groups to vote. And they did, and it was still fairly divided.

But I think we’ve finally done it. Two catch-phrases that we all kept going back to over and over again.

So, here goes (and don’t hate me if yours isn’t on here, seriously, it probably made the cut at some point, this was agonizing…):

FIRST PLACE (and winner of the UNEARTHLY prize pack):

Hailey for her catch-phrase:

Echoes are forever

With honorable mention going to Chloe for her variations on the same line:

Echoes go on forever / The echoes never end

SECOND PLACE (and the winner of the KISSES FROM HELL prize pack):

Elizabeth Briggs, with her catch-phrase:

What’s your desire?

I loved all the plays on the word DESIRE, but this one fit nicely with THE BODY FINDER’s original catch-phrase: What is your echo?

Honorable mentions for this one go to:

Marsha Sigman for: What do you desire?

Kjovus for: What is your desire?

And Jackie (writer’s block) from Goodreads: Do you desire?

Do you see why this was so hard for me??? Not only were there so many amazing choices, but then there were these slightly tweaked variations that I had to decide between. T-O-U-G-H!!!!

Those of you got Honorable Mentions, email me (kim (at) kimberlyderting (dot) com), I’ve got some brand spanking new TBF and DESIRES buttons and bracelets to send you!

And I’m sorry I couldn’t pick everyone, I really am!!!! I love you guys!

Happy Book Birthday... the UK version of The Body Finder!!!!!!

SUPER-DUPER FABULOUS EXCITING NEWS (that kinda freaks me out!)

You know that episode of The Twilight Zone where the author thinks her new book is coming out in four months, and that she has plenty of time for promo and eating bon-bons (and everything else that we authors do all day), and then suddenly her editor emails her to say that they’ve changed their minds and they want the new book to come out earlier????

Really, you don’t remember that one? Weird…maybe it’s just me. Or maybe it was just my email from my editor saying that DESIRES OF THE DEAD will be coming out AN ENTIRE MONTH EARLIER!!!!! That’s right, instead of March 15th, Desires of the Dead will now hit stores on February 15th!

Excited? Of course!

Freaked out? Hell, yeah!!! (I’ve gotta get me some bookmarks, stat!)

Oh , and by the way, does anyone out there want to be Jay’s Valentine? ;)

An Easy Way To Win An ARC of DESIRES OF THE DEAD...

Just head over to The Body Finder Novels and check it out. It's quick and easy (unlike my contests, in which I turn you into my own personal think tank)!

Holy WOW, You Guys...

I've been reading through all of your contest entries, and you have absolutely BLOWN ME AWAY with all your clever catch-phrases. It's gonna take me a couple of days to sort through them all...and to get some outside votes to get them narrowed down to the top two (seriously, I'm not sure how that's ever going to happen!).

So be patient with me, I'm working on it, I promise!!!!

Tenners, Candy, and Swag...

So what are my two favorite things in the entire world??? Okay, well, my husband and kids, of course. But aside from them, candy and books definitely top the list! And yesterday I was able to combine my love for candy and books at the Tenners' Halloween signing, where five local Tenners signed books, answered questions, and passed out Halloween candy.

As a group, we decided not to go "all out" on costumes, so I threw on my bat headband and skull t-shirt (and why, yes, thank you for candy bucket does match my shirt!).

We had a good turnout and LOTS of great questions, and I just have to congratulate Grace, who won the ARC of Desires of the Dead for coming out to see us!!!

That's us: Chelsea Campbell (in a pumpkin hat she made herself!), Karen Kincy, Denise Jaden (looking angelic in her halo), Mindi Scott, and me!

But I have to say, this was my favorite Halloween treat! I got a special delivery from Reggie at The Undercover Book Lover, who decided that what I was missing from my swag arsenal were buttons, so she designed and ordered these babies:

Don't you love them??? I absolutely adore them! Thank you so much, Reggie!!!!!!!!!!!

And Happy Halloween, everyone!

Friday, October 29, 2010

Okay, so I’ve been thinking…I’ve got this book coming out in March (a little something called DESIRES OF THE DEAD). And yes, I know that’s still very far away, but I’ve got a dilemma and could really use your help.

DESIRES OF THE DEAD has this great tagline:

The missing dead call to Violet.

They want to be found…

But I also need a “catch phrase” of sorts…you know, something that I can use as a fun one-liner for signings, on my websites, maybe even for my swag.

With THE BODY FINDER, it was:

What is your echo?

I love that…it’s dark and mysterious…and yeah, just a tad morbid. I want something like that for DotD, but you know what??? I got nothing!

So, unless you want me sending out posters that say “Don’t party too hard!” and signing books with “Have a nice summer” I’m gonna need your help. All I’m looking for is that perfect blend of cool and creepy. That shouldn’t be too hard, right???

Fine, it IS hard but I’m willing to pay for your help. Okay, so maybe not pay exactly, but definitely bribe you with fabulous prizes.

So, for my Writer’s Block Contest, I want you guys to come up with that perfect one-liner (even though I’ll probably tell everyone that I came up with it myself! ;). Be creative, be clever, and you can even be sinister if you must. And in return, I’ll give my top two favorite “catch phrases” each a special Harper prize pack.

FIRST PLACE will receive:

Wait for it….an ARC of UNEARTHLY by Cynthia Hand!!!!!!! (Oh, and did I mention that I’m blurbing this book??? Yeah, I loved it THAT much!!!)

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS by Sara Shepard (This is the new one with the way cool TV series cover).

And PRETTY DEAD by Francesca Lia Block.

KISSES FROM HELL, an awesome anthology by Kelley Armstrong, Richelle Mead, Alyson Noel, Kristin Cast, and Francesca Lia Block.

An ARC of VAMPIRE CRUSH by A.M. Robinson.

And the first 7 chapters of BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS by Anna Godbersen. (I love this cool mini-ARC!)

Unfortunately I have to limit the prize packs to US residents only, but here’s the thing, I really want you International folks to help me too, so I’ve come up with a compromise. If you’re an International reader and I choose your “catch phrase” for first or second place, I’ll send you a gift certificate worth $20USD for the online bookseller of your choice (in lieu of the prize packs). See, I didn’t forget you!!!

And just in case you’re like me (and like to do a little research) here’s where you can find more info about DESIRES OF THE DEAD:

Okay you guys, you have until Friday, November 5th, now get out there and Creep. Me. Out!

Very Cool Way To Order Signed Copies of THE BODY FINDER...

I just spoke with the people at Uppercase Books (where I'm doing my signing this Saturday), and they've agreed to take mail orders over the phone for personalized copies of THE BODY FINDER! YAY!!!

But you have to order before 3PM Saturday since that's the only day I'll be up that way! With shipping (inside the US, of course), the cost will be $21 plus tax, and they'll ship next week :)

Here's their info:

Uppercase Books and Collectables
Snohomish, WA 360-568-5987

COME SEE ME THIS WEEKEND (and you could walk away with an ARC of DESIRES OF THE DEAD!)

So this Saturday, I’ll be doing a pre-Halloween signing with the wonderful and talented Denise Jaden, Chelsea Campbell, Mindi Scott, and Karen Kincy at Uppercase Books in Snohomish. What’s in it for you, you ask???

Well, not only will I be passing out candy and goodies (it is Halloween after all!), but last week my editor sent me an extra ARC of DESIRES OF THE DEAD that she just happened to find while she was cleaning her office...and I’m going to give it away to one attendee!!!

That’s right, come to the signing this Saturday and you could win an advance copy of DESIRES! Come on, people, how easy is that???

And while you’re there, you can also pick up the following signed books (which make great holiday presents!):

See you in Snohomish on Saturday!!!

Monday, October 25, 2010

Remember when (just two days ago) I said I was “so over” Halloween? So do you know what I forgot? I forgot that pumpkin patches (at least the ones around here!) sell food. Good food. Like greasy, fattening, sugary carnival food.

And Saturday that’s just where we went…to the pumpkin patch, where they were serving fresh roasted corn on the cob, caramel apples, polish hot dogs, chili, mini donuts (hot from the…well, wherever it is that donuts come from), and pretty much anything else you could possibly want. All I know is that I ate…a lot!

They also had pony rides for the kids…

She really wanted to ride the "wild one", but I'm almost positive they don't bring the wild ones to the pumpkin patch. (Just look at her, she can barely contain her enthusiasm!)

They also had pony rides for the grown-ups.

(Okay, so maybe I was the only grown-up riding the hay-bale horses, but whatever!)

And then they had these freaky man/pig/cow mannequin things...

We weren’t quite sure what you were supposed to do with

I gotta tell ya, after a day of power-eating, my Halloween spirit is back! Move over eggnog, I’ve got a serious hankering for a pumpkin spice latte, baby!!!

But let me ask you this, is it weird that all of my holiday spirit seems to be tied to seasonal foods???

YA Spooktacular

I almost forgot to mention that I'm participating in this really cool Halloween event called YA Spooktacular. It's a collaborative story called DARKNESS that's being told in 13 different parts, with each part being written by a different author. It starts here with author Heather Brewer's (The Chronicle's of Vladmir Tod) contribution. Mine is the second part, which you can read here.

Each day for 13 days a new section will be added and while you're there you can enter to win all kinds of great prizes. There's a second story (with different authors) called A SOUL LAID BARE, which starts here.

The whole thing is really kind of awesome!

Italy is joining the TBF family, thanks to Italian publisher Mondadori who just bought Italian rights to The Body Finder and Desires of the Dead! To celebrate this exciting news, I’m planning to indulge my love of all things pasta, pizza, and gelato! So what’s different about this kind of celebration than any other day??? Two words: No Guilt!

In other news, I’m so over Halloween this year. I'm not sure how this happened since it's not even Halloween yet, but I have absolutely zero urge to carve pumpkins or to go out trick-or-treating with the kids (which in our neighborhood means trick-or-drinking for the grown-ups!). I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m all about having an overflowing candy bowl in my house, but for some strange reason I’m ready to bypass the all the fall holidays and jump right into the Christmas season.

On other hand, my husband, as usual, is all over Halloween. He’s got flying ghosts on the roof, scary music, fog machines and strobe lights, hanging skeletons in our entry way (and on our garage), and this really cool head in a crystal ball that screams: “LET ME OUT!” All of the little kids are terrified of our house*. (It really is kind of awesome!)

As for me, I can’t quite explain where all this early Christmas cheer is coming from, but I’m already craving eggnog lattes and humming Christmas tunes in my head. I have a feeling this holiday season is going to be extra festive for me. Translation: expensive.

I wonder if it’s too soon to send out my Christmas cards**. Yeah, maybe I should wait a few more weeks. At least.

* I have to stand outside and bribe them with candy.
** You probably think I'm joking, but I seriously already have them!

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

I’m putting together my playlist for Desires of the Dead. That’s something I didn’t to for The Body Finder even though there are definitely songs that I associate with it. Mostly, I listened to A LOT of Evanescence while I was writing TBF. But there is one song in particular that I always associate with the killer’s scenes: Possum Kingdom by The Toadies. It just has this super creepy vibe about it…the promises not to hurt the girl, the contradicting messages, the dark and sinister tone. So, if you know me at all, you have to know that I LOVE it!

The new playlist is hard. My taste is so eclectic, and while part of me feels like I should at least try to be edgy and cool, I don’t want to be a total fake either. So I’ll probably end up including ALL of the songs I use to “get me in the mood” (you know, for writing)…and then you guys can laugh at what a geek I really am!

Okay, yes, that title was my lame attempt at a joke…but GUESS WHAT???

The Body Finder will soon be available in audiobook format!!!! (Get it..."Hear Ye"...audiobook??? Umm, yeah...)

So this week, not only did I sign the contract with my new audio publisher, Audible Inc., but I also got to listen to some very talented actresses audition as they read from my book. Both of those things alone are SUPER COOL, but it also means that we’re that much closer to seeing…err…hearing...The Body Finder! And I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE audiobooks!!!

I don’t have the release date yet for TBF (I’ll post the deets when I have them), but Desires of the Dead audio version will be available simultaneously with its release on March 15th. YAY!!!!!

Let me just say: Welcome to the TBF family, Audible!!!!!

My Very First DESIRES OF THE DEAD Giveaway!!!!!!

I can’t believe it’s October already! That means it’s just four and a half months until the paperback release of THE BODY FINDER…and only five and half months until DESIRES OF THE DEAD hits stores! OMGOMGOMG!!! (Sorry, brief panic attack there, but you’d be surprised how fast five months can go!)

So, remember when I told you that I was thinking about having a giveaway? Well, I am not a liar. (Okay, yes, I am totally a liar by profession...but not in this case!!!)

Here’s the deal. I have this ARC. And it’s pink. And it has the word “Desires” in the title. And it really, really needs a new loving home. So I’m giving you a chance to get your very own signed, ARC (advance reviewer copy) of DESIRES OF THE DEAD.

You have until October 15th (that’s officially 5-months before Desires of the Dead releases!) to stuff the ballot box with points. These are easy points, people, you can totally do this!!!

1) Become a blog follower. That’s ONE, SUPER-EASY POINT! (Be sure to let me know if you already are…that counts!)

2) ONE POINT if you become a Twitter Follower. If you already are, leave me your Twitter name so I can give you your point.

3) Now Tweet the contest…that’s ONE MORE POINT.

4) Become a Goodreads Fan. Another easy point. (Again, if you’re already a “fan” let me know, that’s ONE POINT for you!)

5) Friend me on Facebook. (And, yes, if you already are, make sure you leave your name so I can give you credit). ONE POINT!

Just be sure to add up all those points for me in the comment section (don’t make me do the math, folks, it won’t be pretty!). You have until 11:59PM Pacific on October 15th, and you can earn a total of 5 POINTS per person. The winner will randomly chosen.

This contest is for U.S. and Canadian addresses only. Sorry international peeps, but stay tuned, the next contest will be worldwide, I promise (of course I’m a liar, so who knows!). :)

Now get out there and score!!! Okay, that didn’t sound right, did it????

You can check out all the latest reviews for DESIRES OF THE DEAD and THE BODY FINDER, as well as get all the latest news for both books, on The Body Finder Novels fansite.

And sometimes they know things even before I do!!!

You Can Make A Difference

Reggie from The Undercover Book Lover is planning to have an auction-month for October to help raise money for the Pakistan Flood Relief Fund. Over 10 million children have been affected by the flood when over one fifth of the country (the size of Italy), was submerged in water, and they are still in need of help.

Here are some guidelines if you would like to consider donating (I did, and you should think about it too)!

What can you donate?

-Critiques (no minimum or maximum length)
-ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies): signed or unsigned
-Your Book: signed or unsigned
-Annotated/Marked-up copy of your book/ARC
-A combination of any of the above =)

How will it work?

-When you choose to donate, Reggie will post the auctions starting in October and when the highest bidder has won and payed, she will send his/her address for you to send the prize!

-100% will be donated IN A LUMP SUM to the Pakistan Emergency Fund that can be found here: (she will even show the PayPal receipt as proof).

For more details, check out Reggie’s post, or email her at! This is a great cause, you guys!!!

Tell The Truth Tuesday…

One of the things I hate about the world-o-publishing are all of the secrets. I think I’ve said this before, but I am not a good secret-keeper. All the secret-keeping makes me shut down. Aka, blog silence. Have you noticed the blog silence??? Yeah, there are secrets. And I really, really hate keeping ‘em.

Also, I got word today that my publisher is pretty much out of Desires of the Dead ARCs.

The good news: That means that DESIRES was highly requested.

The bad news: That means most reviewers will now have to wait until there are finished copies. Boo!

Unless, of course, I have a contest.

I totally think I should have a contest soon, don’t you?

In other news, it was pointed out to me today that I blink a lot. Excessively, even. (Yes, mom, I was listening…I get it, I blink too much!)

Actually, I was the first one to bring it up after watching a video of myself, and my mom only confirmed what I already suspected: I am a super-blinker!

The good news: My eyelids are incredibly strong.

The bad news: I look like I'm having some sort of seizure on camera.

Seriously, though, I think I may have some sort of dry eye thing going on…since…well, forever. Anyway, I’m gonna have to get that checked out. Next time you see a video of me, I won’t even blink. Not once. It’ll be freaky.

In a totally cool, I’m-so-hot, look-at-me-not-blinking kind of way, of course.

The Debs Are SPEAKing Loudly Too (and are giving you a HUGE chance to win!)

Remember a couple of days ago when I said that Twenty Boy Summer was on the list of books being banned? And you know how I’m a 2009 Deb???

Well, we Debs have banded together to stand behind our friend Sarah Ockler (the author of TBS) and we’re giving away 100--yes 100!!!--copies of Twenty Boy Summer between now and October 2nd!

Them are some good odds, people. I’m just sayin’.

But don’t comment here (unless you just wanna tell me how cool I am!), you’ve gotta go over to the Debs’ site to enter the giveaway.

Sometimes I'm so dang proud to be part of this YA community!!!

My Epic SMART CHICKS Wrap-Up Post!!!

So, while The Smart Chicks Kick-It Tour is far from over, my part is finished. And, OHMYGOD OHMYGOD OHMYGOD, I had a blast!!! But rather than bore you with the details, I’m just gonna show you:

In Scottsdale (on a day that topped 110 degrees!), I had lunch with Little Miss J (Jeanette) and her infamous friend, Amie.

Later that night, the two of them braved almost 300 screaming girls to stand in line and say hi again. That’s true friendship!

Poisoned Pen Books had these great Smart Chicks Kick-It (Get it??? "Kick-It" so they had boots. Clever!) cookies waiting for us in the “green room” (a room which I have to say was not green at all).

They also dazzled our eyes with these cute and sparkly tattoos that were painted on nearly everyone in line. (Clearly it doesn’t take much to please me, cookies and sparkles and I am a happy, happy girl!)

The Late Bloomer gals, Jen and Espe (pictured here with all the Smart Chicks) along with Aprilynne Pike (who was camera shy) introduced me to GELATO after the event. Who knew how delicious gelato was??? Honestly, I can’t stop craving it now. Thanks a lot, you guys!

The next day we were off to Menlo Park minus Sarah Rees Brennan and Holly Black...but we picked up Melissa de la Cruz, Margie Stohl, and Kami Garcia. Oh, and Vania!

Backstage we showed off our jewelry and our shoes…

…we read the paper (really, this was for an interview)…

And then we were on…

I have no idea what Alyson was saying, but it must have been HI-larious! (at least the photo was)

Okay, Zoe tried to tell me she dyed her hair to match my Desires of the Dead cover, and I don’t know if that was true or not, but I’m vain enough that I’ve convinced myself to be flattered. So, YAY Zoe!!!

Even famous author (and fellow Tenner!) Heidi Kling came out to see us! (See, I told you Vania was there!)

And if you want to see more from these stops, Smart Chick Jackson Pearce has put together these awesome video montages (I wish I had half of Jackson's video makin' skillz!):
